Hill College Rodeo Team members compete at San Antonio College Showdown

Hill College rodeo team competed at the third annual Collegiate Rodeo Challenge at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Feb. 10. This event is host to 200 of the finest collegiate rodeo athletes in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) from the Southern and Southwest regions. The athletes competed in six timed event challenges: tie down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. The top eight contestants were invited to return for a final performance and the top eight ranked rough stock riders, four from each region, to compete in bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding. The contestants competed for added-money and awards. 

Hill College team ropers Clye Denison, sophomore of Iowa, La., and Colton Brittain, sophomore of Rockwall, placed first in the long go-round, second in the short go-round and first in the average. Layne York, freshman from Huntsville, was third in the short round and fourth in the average of steer wrestling. Cooper Mathews, sophomore of Cleburne, competed in the calf roping. Colby Fedor, sophomore of Grandview, won the bareback riding. Parker Fleet, freshman of Axtell, won third in the saddle bronc riding. The Hill College men’s team won the championship at the San Antonio Collegiate Showdown.

From the women’s team, Raelee Self, sophomore from Sumner, won the short round and ended up third in the average of the barrel racing. Maci Ray, sophomore of Maybank, competed in the breakaway roping.
